Description

Agnes cut out dress is a stylish dress in jersey fabric for children. The three basic models are sleeveless; with slumped shoulders; and with long sleeves.

The skirt part can be sewn in different ways to suit all models; like a plain, simple skirt or a skirt with a wide frill. A third option is to sew large pockets onto the simple skirt.

At the top of the skirt, you sew on a waistband with elastic in it. The elastic is not tight around the waist, but mostly holds the dress in.

The modern cut-out on the sides of the bodice is a stylish detail that is still easy to sew. If you would rather sew the dress without a cut out, I show this simple modification in the sewing instructions.

The neckline and armholes, as well as the sleeve ends of the model with dropped shoulders, are sewn with edging. I show an easy way to sew visible or hidden edging, without edging.

I also recommend sewing "just" the skirt as a separate skirt, it will be so nice.

Sizes: 86-152 (approx. 1-12 years).

Difficulty level: 2/3

YOU NEED:

Knitted fabric with at least 30% stretch, preferably jersey (cotton jersey, viscose jersey, tencel jersey, etc.). You can use woven fabric (fabric without stretch) for the skirt part and waistband because they have generous width over the waist and bodice.

* Calculated on an Agnes dress with a ruffled skirt and that all pattern parts are sewn in the same fabric. The fabric allowance above is not exact but should be seen as an approximate guideline. The fabric allowance applies to unwashed (not pre-shrunk) fabrics with a width of 160 cm. If you are going to buy new fabric for your project, please add a few dm just in case. The measurements are in cm.

Fabric for the edging: If you are not using ribbon edging, feel free to choose the same fabric as the dress or a matching jersey fabric. Do not use burlap cloth or similar thick cloth. If you use band edgers, you can e.g. choose collar or interlock for the edge tape.

Elastic, 5-6 mm wide to the bodice cut out and to the long sleeve. See length in the table above.

Elastic, 2.5 cm wide, to the upper edge of the skirt. Cut the length of the elastic so that it has the same measurement as the child's waist. Remember that elastic bands can be different stretches and more or less hard or soft, so you may want to make the elastic 1 cm shorter - or 1 cm longer. But starting from the same measurement as the child's waist is the best, according to the result of the test sewing.

Possibly a small piece that can be ironed on spacer, to the top hem of the pockets, for more stability.

GOOD TO HAVE:

Elastic threader or safety pin, glue pen, measuring tape, fabric scissors, needles/clips, iron, and sewing machine with thread whose color matches the fabric and appropriate needle for the fabric. A stretch needle is usually recommended for knitted fabrics.

Size guide

Choose size based primarily on the child's height. If the child is between two sizes, choose the larger one.
