______

Frankie is a long-sleeved shirt with a relaxed fit and dropped shoulders. The neckline and cuffs are sewn with cuffs. At the bottom, you can choose classic waist gusset or elastic gusset; i.e. a waistband with elastic in. The model with elastic cuffs is cropped in length.

Frankie fits girls as well as boys, and includes both simple and more challenging models.

The different models are:

A. A very simple and very quick sweatshirt. No frills. The perfect model to let the fabric do the talking or when you want to throw together a new sweater in an evening.

B. Here, too, it is simple and quick sewing but with an extra element: small frills around the upper part of the sleeve. The flounce is gathered and sewn into the sleeve seam.

C. Small children may fill them with rocks, while the elderly may bring a mobile phone - model C has a large pocket on the belly! This is an invisible pocket sewn between the center of the front piece and the side panels.

D. Big, lovely ruffles! These gorgeous ruffles extend from the front piece, just below the shoulder and down the back piece. They are slightly wrinkled at the top.

E. A simple color block sweater. Here we use the front and back side panels to play with Frankie's design.

Difficulty level: 2/3.

YOU NEED:

  • Knitted fabric with at least 30% stretch and approx. medium weight (200-270 gr/m2). It is also possible to sew in lighter and heavier fabric. I mainly recommend college / jogging fabric, but cotton jersey works well too. Feel free to experiment with similar fabrics such as ponte di roma, Ottoman, knitted jacquard, etc.
  • Note. to the frills you don't have to use knitted fabric, it is also fine to use a woven fabric. If you sew the neck strip for the neckline, please use a thinner fabric (135-200 gr/m2) with approx. 30-40% stretch to it, such as jersey. Same goes for the pocket, use a thin fabric so it does not become unnecessarily heavy. Please pre-wash all fabrics before cutting out, knit fabrics usually shrink on the first wash.
  • Mouth cloth with approx. 60-70% stretch, for sleeve cuffs, neck cuffs and regular cuff band (see fabric consumption in the table below, bottom row).
  • Elastic, if you sew Frankie with an elastic cuff. See length and width in the table below.

    * Calculated on a Frankie with an elastic cuff and that all pattern parts are sewn in the same fabric, except for the large flounce, whose fabric consumption is on its own row. Cuff fabric for pattern parts that are to be sewn in cuff fabric is also specified on a separate line.

The fabric allowance above is not exact but should be seen as an approximate guideline. The fabric allowance applies to unwashed (not pre-shrunk) fabrics with a width of 150 cm. If you are going to buy new fabric for your project, please add a few dm just in case. The measurements are in cm.

    GOOD TO HAVE:

Glue pen, elastic threader or safety pin, measuring tape, fabric scissors, needles/clips, iron, and sewing machine with thread whose color matches the fabric and appropriate needle for the fabric. A stretch needle is usually recommended for knitted fabrics.
