Description

Olivia is a lovely dress with fine details in the back. Perfect to dance in as the dress offers maximum spin. You can choose to sew the back skirt part slightly longer, according to the pattern, or make the dress as long in the back as in the front.

In the back, the dress closes with buttons, and you choose how many you want to put. If you prefer to put press studs, that's just as well. You can choose between long sleeves, three-quarter or short sleeves.

The pattern also comes in a tunic version! Then there is buttoning along the entire back, but you could choose to e.g. just put buttons on the top half to leave the bottom open. The tunic gets additional nice details with the associated pockets, which you can choose to sew on the tunic or not.

Difficulty level: 2/3 (Level guide).
Sizes: 56-146 (approx. age 1 month to 11 years).

YOU NEED:

Fabric: Knitwear, e.g. Jersey. Even thicker fabric such as college/sweatshirt works well.

The calculation above is approximate and applies to unwashed (not pre-shrunk) fabrics with a width of 160 cm. If you are going to buy new fabric for your project, please add 10-20 cm just in case. The measurements are in cm.

Iron-on inlay in stretch, for the lining of the neckline. The right kind of spacer is very important for the lining to be good! In addition to being stretchy, it is important that the inlay is as thin/light as the fabric, or lighter. I recommend Vlieseline H609.

Iron-on spacer, non-stretch, or woven fabric to stabilize the buttonholes.

Buttons. Size and number of buttons is up to you. Button loan is designed for buttons with a width of 15-25 mm. On page 20 of this booklet there are instructions for adapting the button loan if you want larger or smaller buttons. It is just as well to use push buttons.

Size guide

Choose size based on your child's chest width. The dress will then not sit tight, but close to the body. The tunic has the same width at the chest width, but becomes wider, like an A-shape.

The bodice has 3 cm of movement, which means that the finished bodice at the chest width and waist is 3 cm larger than the child's measurements. Olivia is designed for jersey fabric with at least 30% stretch. Feel free to look at the stretch guide in the pattern and evaluate your fabric. The measurements below are in cm.
