______

Wilma and Wide is a loose fitting jacket for girls and boys suitable for fleece fabric and similar thick fabrics with a little stretch. The jacket has raglan sleeves and long cuffs.

Sew the jacket only with a high collar or add a removable hood. Choose kangaroo pockets, pockets with zippers, or no pockets at all.

Difficulty level: 3/3

FABRIC ACCESS:

This is an approximate calculation. The fabric allowance applies to 150 cm wide fabric, not pre-shrunk. Feel free to add a couple of decimetres if you buy new fabric for your project. All measurements are in cm.

YOU NEED:

  • Fabric
    • For front and back, sleeves, hood: The pattern is designed and tested for fleece fabrics, but it is also possible to use other fabrics of similar thickness, preferably with 10-40% stretch.
    • For cuffs: I recommend cuff fabric.
    • For wind trim, pocket bags, collar lining, hood lining: If your fleece fabric is thick, feel free to use a thinner fabric for these parts. For example jersey, interlock, cuff.
    • For edging: I recommend interlock or cuff fabric.
  • 1 divisible zipper with teeth. The zipper doesn't have to be the exact length below, but it can't be shorter. In the sewing tutorial, I show how to shorten a zipper. Feel free to buy a zipper that is about 5 cm too long! It's easy for fleece fabric to stretch out as you work with it, and when it's time to sew on the zipper, you don't want it to be too short.
  • 2 zipper stops, to replace the old ones in case you cut off the divisible zipper.
  • 2 integral zippers (if you are going to sew pockets with zippers). The zippers don't have to be the exact length below, but they can't be shorter.
  • Sandwiches to the collar. With or without stretch. The spacer should be thinner than the fabric.

  • 4-5 push buttons, and associated tools, if you are going to sew a hood.
  • Other useful tools: glue pen, side cutters and pliers (if you are going to cut the zipper), tape edger (not necessary).

Size guide

Choose a size based primarily on the child's chest width and height. The jacket is designed to fit well on the child even when the child is wearing a thicker sweater underneath. All measurements are in cm.
